A drop is when a student drops a course but remains enrolled in other courses in that same session. See the example below:
This student wants to drop SGNL 1010. Since they will still be enrolled in another Regular session course, this is considered a drop.
Same in this example. This student wants to drop CJUS 2100 but still remain enrolled in the same session, so this would be considered a drop.
A withdrawal is when a student drops all courses in an academic session, even if they are enrolled in another session. See the example below:
This student wants to drop HIST 2610. Since that course is the only one in the session, this is considered a withdrawal.
In this example, the student is dropping all courses in the same session, therefore it is considered a withdrawal.

If you drop courses or withdraw from the semester, you may be required to return all or a portion of the financial aid that you accepted. This situation could result in you owing funds to UNT, the government, or both.
If you are considering withdrawal from UNT, please contact your Academic Advisor and a Financial Aid counselor so your decision will be based on a clear understanding of the consequences of withdrawing from all courses.

Tuition insurance is a plan that can be purchased by students or their family member who pays for tuition that ensures reimbursement for tuition, room and board, and other fees for covered withdrawals at any time during the semester. An example of a covered withdrawal would be one in which a student must leave due to an unexpected injury or illness.
UNT contracts with GradGuard's™ Tuition Insurance from Allianz Global Assistance. The company offers tuition insurance featuring special plans and rates not available to the general public. Plans also include Student Life Assistance: a 24-hour emergency hotline.
