UNT tuition and fee adjustments are administered according to campus policy and Texas Education Code (TEC) 54.006, Refund or Adjustment of Tuition and Mandatory Fees for Dropped courses and Student Withdrawals.  Tuition adjustments on a student account may be the result of either a drop or withdrawal from courses.

  • A drop occurs when a student removes a course from their schedule but remains enrolled in other courses during the same academic session.
  • A withdrawal occurs when a student removes all courses in an academic session, even if they remain enrolled in another concurrent or future session.

How do I know what session I am enrolled in?

Tuition Insurance

Tuition insurance is a plan that can be purchased by students or their family member who pays for tuition that ensures reimbursement for tuition, room and board, and other fees for covered withdrawals at any time during the semester. An example of a covered withdrawal would be one in which a student must leave due to an unexpected injury or illness.

UNT contracts with GradGuard's™ Tuition Insurance from Allianz Global Assistance. The company offers tuition insurance featuring special plans and rates not available to the general public. Plans also include Student Life Assistance: a 24-hour emergency hotline.

Drop and Withdrawal Screenshot Examples

A drop is when a student drops a course but remains enrolled in other courses in that same session.  See the example below:

This student wants to drop SGNL 1010.  Since they will still be enrolled in another Regular session course, this is considered a drop.

Screenshot of a student dropping a class (SGNL 1010) on myUNT portal

Same in this example. This student wants to drop CJUS 2100 but still remain enrolled in the same session, so this would be considered a drop.

See the withdrawal example below:

This student wants to drop HIST 2610.  Since that course is the only one in the session, this is considered a withdrawal.

In this example, the student is dropping all courses in the same session, therefore it is considered a withdrawal.
